Operate IP-Symcon via telephone

Summary
The system provides a user interface to IP-Symcon instances to multiple desk telephones from different manufacturers. In addition, it is possible to set up a monitoring routine which periodically checks the state of an instance and sets off an alarm on the telephone if its not within the wanted specification, e.g., if a window is not closed at 17:00.
Target Group
Companies with interconnected building technology / employees with office duty
Advantages of this System
- One consistent panel for all workstations, without login or complex navigation
- All instances that are relevant for the location within a compact and clearly arranged list
- Easy assignment of instances to devices
- Simple distribution of the software to multiple telephones
- Easy administration via the administration tools of the telephone system
- Improved building security thanks to monitoring routines
Implementation Challenges of the Project
The goal of the project was the development of an easy-to-use alternative for operating already integrated building technology. The project required an efficent combination of different components and protocols.
Technical Details
For every interaction with the application the telephone sends a request to the telephone system. In a next step, the telephone system forwards the request to the application server. The application server receives a list via LDAP that contains all IP-Symcon instances that are connected to each telephone. To present the list of instances and read or change instance states, the application server uses the programming interface (JSON-RPC) of the IP-Symcon server. After sucessfully completing the request, the application server forwards the information from the IP-Symcon server to the telephone.
