The Amazon Alexa module enables the control of devices via Amazon Alexa. This includes the voice control via Echo Dots.
Using the Amazon Alexa module requires an active connection to the Invalid Link: Connect Control, which in turn requires an active subscription.
If the module IQL4SmartHome is installed, its instances and the module need to be deleted. Existing settings are lost in this process!
Using the Amazon Alexa module requires its installation in the Invalid Link: Module Control first. The Invalid Link: Module Control needs to be opened for this. It is found in the main category "Core Instances" in the object tree or can be opened directly with the "Updates" widget. To install, press the Add button at the bottom right of the Invalid Link: Module Control. Enter the URL https://github.com/symcon/Alexa in the opened dialog and confirm with "OK".
Next, create an Instance of the Amazon Alexa module. Open the object tree, click the Add button at the bottom right, and select Instance.
In the module list, select the device "Amazon Alexa" from the vendor "Amazon". The location should not be changed. The name can be chosen at will. Finally, confirm with "OK".
After the creation of the Amazon Alexa instances, it is opened automatically and can be configured.
The module offers multipe device types that can be used. To prepare a corresponding device, expand its panel and create a new entry in its list by clicking "Add" below the list.
Each entry requires a name, under which the device will be known to Alexa. Additional parameters depend on the device type and can be found in the corresponding site of the documentation. After setting all parameters, confirm with "OK".
After all devices are configured, confirm the settings by clicking "Apply Changes".
After applying, it is recommended to check that the column "Status" contains "OK" for all devices. If this is not the case, the column contains an error message that contains further information about the complication. It should be checked as well that label at the top of the instance states "Status: Symcon Connect is OK". Otherwise, the Invalid Link: Connect Control needs to be activated.
Finally, IP-Symcon needs to be connected to Amazon Alexa so the Amazon Alexa instance can receive requests from Amazon Alexa. The first step is installing the Symcon skill for Amazon Alexa. The installation can be done on the homepage https://alexa.amazon.de. An installation via Amazon Alexa app works similar.
Select "Skills" in the side bar at the left and search "Symcon" in the searchbar at the top.
Click the first result "Symcon".
Click "Activate" at the top right.
A popup should appear. If it does not, check the browser settings and allow the popup. Enter the e-mail address in the popup that the IP-Symcon is registered to and confirm with "Send verification code".
An e-mail with a code is sent to the provided e-mail address. Enter the code from the e-mail into the popup and confirm with "Verify code".
A message "Symcon was connected successfully" should appear. Finally, Amazon Alexa needs to search for the configured devices. One way to do this is saying "Alexa, search for devices".
